I started using Alli again in March along with other weight loss aids as part of a medically-supervised weight loss program. I had used it previously, with limited success, but that success was not wholly a failure on the part of the product as I sometimes forgot to take it and I didn’t always fully meet the dietary restrictions. This time, however, it has made a major contribution to a very successful weight loss effort that has impressed even my doctor. To start with, I had gastric bypass surgery in 2002 that resulted in a weight loss of 188 lbs. Some rebound is common and even expected, but due to various circumstances, I gained weight at the rate of approximately 10 lbs a year, for a total of almost 60 lbs, which is much higher than normal. I made MANY attempts to lose weight but NONE resulted in more than a few lbs loss, no matter what I tried. Then, in February, I became a patient of Dr. Dominic Ricciardi, a bariatric physician who specializes in post-op weight loss surgery patients. (Contrary to popular opinion, long-term post-ops often have a harder time taking off “small” amounts of weight than the average person.) My husband and I started his program together. I have a hard time calling it a program though, since it consists mostly of a calorie-controlled diet (1600 calories for me, 2000 for my husband) with journaling to keep track of calories and protein, physical activity, and the use of prescription phentermine. Prior to beginning the program, we had a full lab workup, and in office we were tested with EKG, Calorimeter, BP, weight, body composition, and measurements. We had great success in the first month. Following an auto accident, I began to have headaches related to a neck injury. When I mentioned this to Dr. Ricciardi, he prescribed me Topomax for the headaches. Some of the well-known “side-effects” of this medication are a marked decrease in appetite and a change in sense of taste with regard to some foods/drinks. This is so distinct that the medication is in the process of being patented as a combo drug WITH phentermine for weight loss. He told me this because he knew that I was already doing very well with the phentermine alone, people taking Topomax often eat TOO LITTLE and he wanted to make sure I continued getting enough nutrition. He was right. I essentially lost the desire to eat (which is a wonderful thing for someone who is essentially a food addict.)At the same time, I told him that I had a supply of Alli from the last time I dieted, and I wanted to know if it would be acceptable for me to take it. He told me that would be fine, and gave me the go ahead to take the prescription dosage. My Amazon purchase was my “refill” after I went through my reserves. Fat content has always been a problem for me for any number of reasons. First, fat is what makes food yummy! Second, especially when it comes to meat, the leaner the cut, the tougher it cooks and the easier it dries out. As a post-op, I need plenty of protein, and it does need to be lean, but it also needs to be tender and moist or it will get stuck in my pouch. It gets very difficult to keep a very low-fat piece of meat tender and moist! Third, my body composition has ALWAYS been higher in fat than normal. Even after massive amounts of plastic surgery following the bariatric surgery, I carried more fat than is normal. Getting fat to leave my body seems impossible, and you can only limit consumption to a certain degree. This is why Alli is such a godsend. As for the side-effects . . . yeah, they’re gross. When I’ve consumed too much fat, I know it. And it has hit at some very bad times, often when I was just about to leave for work. I’ve had to change clothes more than once. Guess what? I’m NOT COMPLAINING. 9 years ago, a doctor cut me open from groin to sternum and rearranged my insides, and it gave me my life back. It was not easy. It was painful. I had to learn to eat all over again and I got so sick that I was hospitalized for 2 weeks, put on TPN for 2 months, and finally started to be able to eat solid food again 3 months after surgery. My “pouch” is the size of a grape, but it is not meant to hold food, it just acts as a valve to regulate the rate of consumption. If I eat too much too fast, I get stuck and get sick. If I eat the wrong thing, that’s too bulky or too dry, I get stuck and get sick. Because of the bypass, if I eat food that is high in refined sugar (or even too much natural sugar), I get sick. I can even get sick from too much fat. Now, with Alli, if I have too much fat, I know what will happen. It’s called aversion therapy, and after awhile, you don’t need to think about it. The IDEA of what that piece of fried chicken will do to you makes you shudder. That’s the POINT! Lately, the only time I have side effects are when I eat something that I THOUGHT was within the guidelines but actually was not. (This might be because I ate out or with friends and had to guesstimate fat content.) I accept consequences and take precautions. If you can’t deal, don’t take Alli. After everything I went through (that I would do all over again in a heartbeat), I find it laughable that so many people who seem so “desperate” to lose weight get indignant because a weight loss product WORKS. Alli is designed to block the absorption of some of the fat you consume. The idea is to NOT consume too much, and it will do its job by still blocking part of what you do consume. If you do have too much, it’s going to do its job even BETTER and block ALOT of that fat. And you’ll probably leak (as I call it). Don’t want to leak? Then control your fat intake. When you see that gross orange stuff in the toilet bowl, smile. The stuff that you paid a lot of money for is working, and be glad that it’s there and not in YOUR body. If its working, and you still aren’t losing weight, then it might be that fat isn’t your problem and you may need to troubleshoot.I started with Dr. Ricciardi on February 2nd (taking only Phentermine at first) weighing 200 lbs. I began Topomax and Alli near the end of March. I have lost steadily and continuously ever since. At last weigh-in on June 30th, I had lost 40 lbs. Now, you may be saying, “that doesn’t mean it’s the Alli . . . what about all the other elements?” My husband has ONLY been taking the phentermine. He started at 336 lbs. He has also lost 40 lbs. However, because he is heavier and male, he should be losing weight much more quickly than me. I cannot say that Alli alone has done it, but to go 5 months without a slowdown of weight loss, and to be only 10 lbs from goal is something that is shocking even to Dr. Ricciardi, and he is a bariatric specialist. I can’t help but think the Alli is playing a significant role.

Only my third bottle though, since I have a hard time remembering to take it with every meal. I love this product. And for the people saying they’ve crapped themselves and they have oily farts, that is only a slight risk when you’ve consumed lots of fatty food in a short amount of time. Try to take this pill 15 minutes before eating, it works better. I also drank Smooth Move tea once a week because of buildup, and the next morning I would weigh in. Tried and true method from a regular ol college student.

This Weight loss product does not seem to be as effective as it used to be years ago. I’m gonna keep trying. I just don’t seem to be seeing the effects that I used to. I’ll let you know if something changes

I have used Alli since it was first brought onto the market and Xenical before it was rebranded as Alli to great use and effectiveness. Even when you include the side effects (thank good news for Tide), it was an excellent product that did its part in helping me lose 20lbs or more every year that I needed to lose a lot of weight.I recently needed to lose some weight but after a week, I notice it was not working—-no weight loss and no side-effects. Attached here is the bottle I purchased and it came in a different package. I even purchased from multiple vendors.Today, I was wondering if there was anything I could learn on the internet and should not have been surprised when I discovered that others had the same experience I found an older capsule, it was much smaller than the new one. The older version is pictured on the left and the newer one was on the right. Note the difference in the granularity. The old one on the right iis a fine powder, the one on the left is more coarse, like pepper. In the last year I received samples of the Oristat from an international pharmacist and it worked the same as the old product. It made me wonder—like the MD review here—-is the capsule thicker and the product not effective because it stays together through out my digestion? I also wondered if it was possibly fake? The artwork of the brand is also different (thinner font) and the label seems cheaper—even the box it came is did not have the shiny appearance of the former package. The new one looks cheaper. If it is authentic product, it is definitely less costly to make vs the fancier box that was curved and not a box. Because the package and art look so different, I believe that it is authentic —not a bad fake.I plan to call the manufacturer, I expect their customer service to be on top of this and will see if I can edit this review later. This is expensive product and may attempt for have the sellers give me a refun on the unused product.Hope this was helpful

Before I start this review, I am FULLY AWARE that this product is NOT labeled for use in individuals with “normal” or “healthy” BMI’s. I am a very average 40 y/o woman with a healthy BMI. I’m actually in pretty good shape and I already eat quite healthy overall, but I have a stubborn 15 pounds that just doesn’t want to budge with moderate caloric restriction and exercise alone. I decided to give alli a shot even though it says it won’t work for people who have healthy BMI’s. I figured, a fat blocker is a fat blocker and it should block fat in someone with a healthy BMI as well as someone who is obese, right? Well yes, it does indeed do that. The orange stains in my toilet and underwear can attest to that, but after taking it at full dosage for 2 months and eating a relatively low fat and low calorie/healthy diet, I didn’t lose a single ounce with the addition of this supplement. Not one!I will say, the awful orange oily farts and bowel movements really only happen when you eat a meal with more than the recommended amount of fat. So those only happened to me once or twice a week. The rest of the time I didn’t worry about side effects because I’m pretty good at sticking to a low fat diet and I track what I eat daily in my fitness pal. That being said, on meals where I would splurge a little, like date night dinner out, I was definitely punished for my sins by the angry orange bowel gods. And the other reviews are right when they say you can’t trust your farts after you eat fat! You will regret it if you think it’s just a little gas and you can let it out not on the toilet. BEWARE!So, to sum up my experience, I’m40 years old, 5’7″ and about 152 pounds (should be around 135). I lift weights and am pretty active and healthy over all but have 15-20 pounds I would like to lose to be at my ideal weight. I tried alli at full recommended dose for 2 months and while I know it was working because of the orange oil in my stool, it did absolutely nothing for my waist line or the scale. I can’t really fault the supplement itself because it was clearly not indicated for use by those wanting to lose 20 pounds or less, but I thought it was worth a try anyway.I sincerely hope this review has been helpful to someone else who is in the same boat and looking into this product! If you’re not severely overweight, I recommend you save your money (and the mess in the toilet)! And yes, I paid full price for this! Feel free to ask any questions.

I’ve only been taking these for a day, but I’ve definitely started to see the ‘action’ happening, so to speak. Some backstory:Over the past few years I gained a significant amount of weight thanks to a desk job closely followed by quarantine. Late 2020 I began exercising and eating better, and I lost about 50 lbs over the course of just under 2 years, although I still need to drop at least another 50-70 more. Well, recently (for a few months now) I’ve hit a bit of a plateau. What was working for me before isn’t as effective. I’d considered trying Alli for a few years, but could never bring myself to spend the money if I wasn’t sure it would work. Well, yesterday I noticed it was not only on sale, but there was a 25% off coupon that took the price to right around $40. For me, that was low enough to take a risk. And I really needed SOMETHING to kickstart things again.Well, while I haven’t yet seen noticeable results in weight or inches, my poor toilet certainly has. I took the first pill right around 24 hrs ago, and a second at lunch today (about 5 hrs ago at the time of writing this review.) On the way home I noticed a slight discomfort, very similar to what one might feel when taking a colon cleanse supplement, and it felt like I needed to fart. Heeding the many, many reviews I’ve seen, I clenched all the way home until I got to the toilet. Very good idea. Finally I had a greasy poop! And then another… and a third. And honestly, as I type, I wouldn’t be shocked if I have to go AGAIN within the next half hour or so. This is less than two hours after getting home. But I had a grease-heavy meal last night so this is not surprising to me— although seeing the orange grease in the toilet certainly was.I’m in my early 30s and nusually eat pretty well, around 1,600-1,800 calories a day, which for me is 300-500 calorie deficit. Lunch is always very balanced with fruit, veggies, chicken and either brown rice or quinoa. Dinners can be a bit worse, with about 2-4 days being some sort of takeout due to roommates not enjoying cooking (we all take turns providing food 2 nights per week) and the other few days are usually chicken, baked potatoes, and some sort of green. All in all my diet isn’t terrible, but I do have a weakness for dessert. I also do 16-8 intermittent fasting so I skip breakfast daily and only eat from 12-8. Because of this, I’ll only be taking two of these pills per day, which will make this box a 2 month supply. I also work out for at least 30 minutes most days, and try to get in 10k+ steps each day now that I’m no longer stuck in a desk job. Despite this, the dreaded plateau hit me like a truck.Judging by the action I’m seeing after taking this for only a day, I’m hopeful it will be the push my body needs to start shedding pounds again. I’ll be sure to update this post when I start seeing some real results.

Let me start by saying I normally don’t write reviews for very many things I buy. This was recommended by doctor to start taking to hopefully get some weight off my bones.I’ve been taking Alli for about 2 weeks. I started off slowly, 1 capsule for a few days and then 2 capsules where I have been at for about a week and half. By day 3 I noticed some bowel changes. The bowels do change to oily and yellow (the fat) that was not absorbed in your body. I will say you have more of an urgency to go. Don’t hold it because if a fart gets a way from you it will come with an oily surprise. I haven’t had any surprises like that but have been close.I will also say keep your fried foods to a minimum or better yet avoid them, I’m not taking about the the little bit of oil you had to sautée something you are cooking, I’m taking about that fried stuff we all like from wing stop and foods like that. Trust me when I say you want to avoid that fried food, you will pay for it the next day, you will be in the bathroom a lot of the day. Have those cooling flushable wipes handy.I mostly cook at home and use very little to no oil when I cook and I didn’t notice any crazy stomach upsets or digestive discomfort until I had something fried aka wing stop. But I wanted to share with people my 2 weeks so far.Good luck to all that chose this route to get some weight off.
